Helen Denney Turns 106

Sunday, June 6th 2010

Today is the 66th anniversary of D-Day, the invasion of Europe during World War II.

Most of us don’t remember it because we weren’t alive when it happened.

Helen Denney doesn’t fall into that category. She was celebrating her 40th birthday the day all that happened.

Still, she says, she doesn’t remember much about those times. Recollections of events that happened a lifetime ago have begun to fade.

“I can’t remember any more,” she says, sort of shrugging her shoulders as she sits in an easy chair in her apartment at Arbor Glen on St. Joe Road. “It’s all left me.”

One can forgive that forgetfulness. In a way, remembering all those details of eras long past is pointless. By the time you turn 106, which is how old Denney turns today, you just take life one day at a time, she said.
