Outward Bound for Veterans
Holiday Retirement communities are honored to be the home to thousands of Veterans and surviving spouses. We are dedicated to honoring those who have served, both past and present.
Returning from battle lines is frequently perceived as a joyous moment for soldiers. However, it is often forgotten that thousands of veterans, hardened by the realities of war, regularly struggle to readjust to civilian life and face mental illness, drug and alcohol abuse, failed personal relationships, and unemployment.
Outward Bound for Veterans helps soldiers re-acclimate to society through wilderness courses that draw on the healing power of teamwork and challenge. From canoeing expeditions in the Northwoods of Maine to urban expeditions in Toronto, Outward Bound’s courses help veterans build the pride, trust, and communication skills needed to properly readjust to their families, jobs and communities.
How to get involved
Each year Holiday Retirement associates, residents, and communities join forces to contribute to this worthy, enriching cause. All of our communities are encouraged to participate in Outward Bound fundraisers between May and December. Find a community near you to learn more about local fundraising opportunities or to volunteer.
