100-year-old Holiday Retirement resident shares his secret to longevity
Remember when sharing your age invoked elation and pride? It’s still that way for Holiday Retirement residents.
Between special birthday parties and opportunities to offer advice to those who are younger, residents at Holiday Retirement communities continually experience the joys of growing older — and wiser. That’s all part of our goal to make sure every senior is living the happiest, healthiest, most fulfilling lifestyle possible.
One way senior living communities commemorate residents’ continuing years of wisdom is through our centenarian club celebrations — distinctive get-togethers for residents turning 100 years or older.
One resident at Holiday Retirement’s The Bedford was recently welcomed to the group of “super-seniors.” On May 5, 2017, Ellis Meacham joined family, friends and fellow residents to celebrate his century of experiences and expertise. Ellis enjoyed lunch at a table donned with 100 colorful balloons, blew out 100 candles atop a specially made carrot cake (his favorite) and received a certificate to mark his monumental achievement.
Among the conversations at the event was Ellis’ secret to living an entire century. “I’ve stayed active throughout life,” said Ellis, “from golfing and boating to deep sea fishing and wintering in Palm Springs. Plus, my family has always been important. I’ve always kept family close and involved in my life.”
