Apple Blossom honors breast cancer survivors
For the residents and employees at Holiday Retirement at Apple Blossom, breast cancer awareness is a passion they hold close to their hearts. Four residents and two employees are breast cancer survivors and proudly sport their pink year-round at the independent senior living community, but especially during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
To honor and celebrate the strength of these six ladies, as well as additional breast cancer survivors who have family living at Apple Blossom, the retirement community hosted a Breast Cancer Survivors Supper in early October.
“Everyone had a wonderful time,” said Kayla Cowart Boyce, enrichment coordinator for Apple Blossom. “We had a local harpist, Beth Stockdell, perform during the meal, and the kitchen staff created a delicious, pink-inspired meal.”

The senior living community initially planned to honor just the four residents and two employees. But the Breast Cancer Survivors Supper became so popular with so many people sharing how they have been touched by breast cancer that by the end of the night, Apple Blossom honored a total of 10 women.
Each woman received a sash that said “Survivor” and a gift bag of various pink ribbon items. Apple Blossom also gave away five gifts throughout the evening, the most sought after being a makeup bag with accessories donated by Avon.
“Overall it was an incredible evening,” said Cowart Boyce. “We had 120 people celebrate and honor all breast cancer survivors.”
