Cedar Woods Hosts Decade Spanning High School Reunion
18 Connecticut high schools gather at Cedar Woods for decade-spanning reunion
When residents at Cedar Woods, an independent senior living community in Branford, Connecticut, expressed interest in connecting with friends from high school, the community’s management team got to work organizing a reunion that took place on June 12.
Classmates.com helped Cedar Woods locate and invite former students from 18 different schools whom graduated from 1934 to 1963. Since nearly one-third of Cedar Woods’ residents graduated from a nearby school in those years, they hoped to bring together dozens of old friends — and they were not disappointed!
Nearly 70 people turned out for the reunion. All proceeds from the $20 entrance fee went directly to local Branford police and fire benevolent associations. Get in touch with Cedar Woods to find out more about life at the retirement community.
Cedar Woods’ staff decorated the dining room in local high school colors and set out nametags with each attendee’s high school yearbook photo. Several Cedar Woods residents were touched by the effort, and they certainly enjoyed catching up with teenage pals.
“Everyone just had such a wonderful time at the reunion,” said Susan Woods, enrichment coordinator for Cedar Woods. “The DJ went down the list of each high school and had attendees stand up if they went there so everyone could see their former classmates. Seeing folks recognize each other across the room was a real treat for us all.”
She added that the staff was so encouraged by this reunion’s turnout, they plan to host annual reunions that include even more schools and graduating classes.
