Veterans and Sky Peaks residents honored for military service
Holiday Retirement is proud that thousands of veterans call our communities home, and we enjoy taking as many opportunities as possible to honor these brave men and women and thank them for their service to our country.
Sky Peaks, along with the Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation (AADF), had the unique opportunity in October to honor two veterans from the senior living community with the ride of a lifetime. The AADF, a non-profit organization whose mission is to “give back to those that have given,” provided William “Bill” Ewers, 93, and James “Jim” Waugh, 89, with “Dream Flights” in a vintage, open cockpit plane.
Bill and Jim are both U.S. Navy veterans and were quite pleased to have the chance to go for 30-minute ride around the Reno-Tahoe area in such a unique plane thanks to the AADF and its supporters.
The AADF stems from a passion for the Boeing Stearman, the same aircraft used to train military aviators in World War II. In 1946, the foundation’s president Darryl Fisher’s grandfather purchased a Stearman and instilled the love of flying in the entire family. In 2011, Fisher restored a 1940s Stearman and recognized the value of paying respect to those who fought for this nation and our freedom.
