Whispering Oaks hosts classic car show for family in need
When Joyce Chisholm, a close friend of the residents at Whispering Oaks in Hermitage Penn. received a call that her son had been injured in a fire at his home, she turned to her extended family at the community for support.
Whispering Oaks residents banded together to help Joyce’s son, Tom Chisholm, and his family, by opening up the community’s doors for a classic car show and fundraiser. On August 6, 2014, event attendees were invited to admire classic cars, tour the independent senior living community, indulge in food and refreshments, and enter to win mystery prizes donated by the Hermitage community. All proceeds raised went toward the Chisholm family’s medical bills.
“We couldn’t have had a more perfect day for our car show for a cause. The whole event was a tremendous success,” said Leisa Ulasz, enrichment coordinator for Whispering Oaks. “The generosity from our residents and visitors was immensely overwhelming. The family came to the event and although it was clear that Tom was still in pain, he stayed to thank everyone for their kindness and was touched by their generousity.”
The community sold hot dogs, walking tacos, chips, drinks and ice-cream sandwiches, and had a fifty-fifty drawing. The evening had an energetic vibe courtesy of a local DJ. The whole event raised more than $600 to go toward Tom’s medical expenses.
What a special event for an amazing cause. Congratulations to the Whispering Oaks community on a successful fundraiser!
