Jim Moore, U.S. Coast Guard
Jim Moore, a resident of Marion Woods, is a U.S. Coast Guard veteran who served from September 1942 through March 1946. Jim served the WWII effort as a General Motors civilian worker for a year and a half before volunteering for the Coast Guard.
Early in his service, Jim manned submarine chaser ships patrolling for enemy subs. After the war ended, he served as a motor mechanic in the Coast Guard’s air-sea rescue with a crew of 15 men aboard the 104-foot vessel CGAR – 15. His job was to keep the engines in service to enable search and rescue of vessels and aircraft returning from Europe.
Always a patriot, Jim is still proud of his service.
