Louisville KY Senior Living
It’s Louisville. Horse racing, college basketball, plays, music and every other senior-friendly activity is available to you no matter where you live in the metropolitan area.
Home to the world-famous Kentucky Derby, Louisville is transformed into a horse racing mecca for two weeks leading up to race day. The festivities begin with the Taste of Derby Festival, where chefs and restaurants across the state gather to share local fare and give to a good cause like the Dare to Care Food Bank. It’s the perfect event for seniors looking for a tasty meal and an active day in the city.
A vast array of events and activities – including the Great Balloon Race, Great Bed Races, Ramble for the Roses and much more – are sprinkled in between the start and the end of the Derby, which concludes with the Kentucky Derby itself. The Kentucky Derby is known as the fastest two minutes in sports and is the start of the Triple Crown, followed by the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes.
But the derby isn’t all that Louisville has to offer, and it would take much longer than two minutes to take it all in. In fact, the city’s website proclaims that Louisville is beginning to get recognized for many of its other endearing traits.
You can visit Museum Row on Main Street for a walk down memory lane. There, you can visit The Frazier History Museum, Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, Kentucky Science Center, the Muhammad Ali Center and more. Or you can stroll down Frankfort Avenue and catch a bite to eat at one of the 30 locally owned restaurants lining the street also known as “The Avenue.”
More adventurous Louisville seniors might want to venture down Bardstown Road, or “Restaurant Row,” to enjoy a wide variety of eclectic eateries offering food from all culinary backgrounds. From Indian to Irish Pub, Bardstown Road has the fare for the most adventurous to the least adventurous eater.
Louisville senior living can be as exciting or relaxed as you make it. You just have to know the right places to look. Start with finding a Holiday Retirement community and you’ll have a leg up on the rest.
