The Durham Museum gives you the opportunity to board trains from the 1940s and 50s, learn more about life during the Civil War and experience the rich heritage of Omaha. Visit the historic Boy’s Town founded by Father Flanagan in 1917 that is still helping young people and families today.
Culturally, Omaha has been praised for its many theaters including the largest community theater in the U.S., Omaha Community Playhouse (founded by Marlon Brando’s mother and attended by Henry Fonda), the Holland Performing Arts Center, Opera Omaha and the renowned Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, an urban artist colony. A must-see for art lovers is the 32,500-square-foot mural by Meg Saligman, “Fertile Ground.”
Music is an important part of life in Omaha. After visiting the area and experiencing the rich Czech community in the area, Antonín Dvořák composed his “New World” Symphony. Celebrations of the diverse music scene include the annual Omaha Blues, Jazz, & Gospel Festival and the Scottish Strathdon Caledonia Pipe Band.
