Seniors helping seniors supporting veterans charities
The Fourth of July is a celebration of families, patriotism and shared heritage. The holiday is traditionally celebrated while swimming at the lake, sharing barbecue and apple pie with loved ones in the backyard, and watching fireworks dance across the night sky.
As we celebrate Independence Day, it’s important to remember the countless men and women who have devoted their lives to the pursuit of freedom and the American lifestyle. This July, we encourage you to make a new holiday tradition by donating your time and resources to the organizations that support veterans’ health, well-being and legacy.
Holiday Retirement is also proud to support organizations such as Outward Bound for Veterans, the Veterans History Project and the Honor Flight Network.
- Outward Bound for Veterans helps soldiers re-acclimate to society through wilderness courses that draw on the healing power of teamwork and challenge. From canoeing expeditions in the Northwoods of Maine to urban expeditions in Toronto, Outward Bound’s courses help veterans build the pride, trust and communication skills needed to properly readjust to their families, jobs and communities.
- The Veterans History Project aims to collect veterans’ history and personal accounts of war, which are preserved in the Library of Congress and used to convey the realities of war to future generations.
- The Honor Flight Network works to transport veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifices of themselves and their friends. Top priority is given to the senior veterans – World War II survivors, along with those other veterans who may be terminally ill.
