Veterans Day: Celebrating Holiday Retirement team members who served
The Holiday Retirement family includes a number of military veterans. In honor of Veterans Day and our continued gratitude for their service, we’re going to highlight a few of the service men and women we’re lucky enough to call family.
Bill Pettigrew has been a valued member of the team at Holiday Retirement’s The Gardens at Arkanshire for almost 12 years. He joined the staff as a part-time bus driver, but now serves as the full-time driver for the Springdale retirement community, a position he says he enjoys because it allows to give back to the community that was a wonderful home to his mother-in-law. He’s since become a favorite of the residents, perhaps because his bus is always full of laughter.
But, before Bill came to the Arkanshire, he served in the Air Force. Bill was attending Bible college when he received his induction notice in the mail in 1973. He still remembers his draft number: 6. Bill served in the Air Force from February 1973 to July 1976 as a weapons mechanic. After returning from duty, Bill became a pastor in 1981, a capacity in which he still acts alongside his duties at the Arkanshire.
Meanwhile, Erin LaDuke, office manager at Holiday Retirement’s Hilltop Estates, picked up some key skills for her present duties while serving in the Navy. At the time Erin served, her designation was mess management specialist, but she explained that reality of the position involved a focus on cooking — as you might expect from the title — and something akin to hotel management, as well.
Holiday Retirement’s Columbus Estates also has a navy veteran as one of its own. Michael Bier is a popular cook at the community — residents love him for his personable nature and his skills in the kitchen alike. And it’s no surprise; he honed his craft for 13 years of service as a CS2 Culinary Specialist 2nd Class in the Navy.
Matthew J. Randall
Matthew J. Randall now serves as the general manager at Holiday Retirement’s Prairie Rose, but before joining the Holiday Retirement family, he provided years of dedicated service to the Army. Matthew completed two tours of duty. During the first, he was an airborne combat engineer team leader. During the second, he acted as a forward observer for the company intelligence support team.
We’re honored to call these former service men and women Holiday Retirement team members. Thank you for your service!
