Why I love serving seniors: Holiday Retirement team members weigh-in
It takes a village to keep a community running smoothly. From bus drivers to chefs to enrichment coordinators, there’s no shortage of dedicated team members serving every corner of a Holiday Retirement community. We caught up with a few members of our housekeeping and maintenance teams to hear about why they love their jobs.
Rachel Hill, a housekeeper and kitchen assistant at Holiday Retirement’s Copley Place says that her co-workers and residents have become an awesome extended family for her. “Being able to help or even just putting a smile on a resident’s face gives me great joy,” she said. And she’s not alone in that.
Pam Hyder and Tari Holland, also of Copley Place, both work a double act at the community, acting as housekeepers and servers during mealtimes. They too feel they’ve been given a bonus family thanks to their work with residents.
Pam loves that the Copley Place residents are as invested in her as she is in them. Whenever she heads into work, the residents greet her with hugs and a warm welcome.
Tari couldn’t agree more. She noted that the residents always put a smile on her face and fill her days with laughter. She says she adores hearing all of the stories the residents have to tell and the knowledge they have to share about the past.
Arli Rizo Estrada is part of the maintenance team at Holiday Retirement’s Hidden Lakes in Salem, Oregon. Arli says he loves that his work allows him to help residents solve problems and listen to their thoughts, suggestions and stories all at the same time. “My favorite part about interacting with our residents is being able to build a friendship,” he said. “I enjoy getting to know them, joking around and talking sports. A bit of laughter is a wonderful way to make a resident’s day.”
Every Holiday Retirement community is unique, but you’ll find one common link between them all: kind and devoted team members like Arli, Tari, Pam and Rachel.
