Holiday Retirement commits to raise $1.2 million for veterans
Holiday Retirement partners with non-profit to support over 600 veterans across the United States and Canada
LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. (May 14, 2013) – Holiday Retirement, the leading provider of independent senior living in North America, announced today its intent to raise $1.2 million to benefit veterans. In renewing their partnership with non-profit Outward Bound for Veterans and Outward Bound Canada, the company hopes to support more than 600 veterans in the United States and Canada.
The $1.2 million would allow over 600 veterans to participate in an Outward Bound veteran excursion program which uses outdoor adventure to assist returning service men and women in the transition from combat to civilian life. By focusing on teamwork and challenge, Outward Bound helps veterans build the trust and communication skills needed to readjust to their families, jobs, and communities – and avoid many of the struggles returning veterans face including mental illness, drug and alcohol abuse, failed personal relationships, and unemployment.
“We have a genuine passion to give back to the brave men and women who have served our country through military service,” said Mark Prince, Outward Bound Company Sponsor and Managing Director at Holiday Retirement. “It is our hope that by raising this money our veterans will not only benefit from the Outward Bound program but realize how much we appreciate their dedication and sacrifice.”
Holiday is home to more than 12,000 veterans and surviving spouses.
During the course of the next several months, Holiday Retirement communities will be hosting events, open to the public, to help raise money for Outward Bound for Veterans and Outward Bound Canada. Additionally, four major fundraising weekends were chosen surrounding patriotic holidays to garner as much support as possible:
May 25 - Memorial Day/Victoria Day
July 6 - 4th of July/Canada Day
Sept. 7 - Labor Day/Labour Day
Nov. 9 - Veteran’s Day/Remembrance Day
In addition to its more than 300 community locations across the U.S. and Canada accepting donations, Holiday is accepting donations online. To learn more, or to donate, visit www.holidaytouch.com/outwardbound for the United States and www.holidaytouch.ca/outwardbound for Canada.
