Aurora Pond residents help keep fellow seniors warm with Christmas tree fundraiser
Each year, Holiday Retirement at Aurora Pond spends the holiday season giving back to the Wyoming, Michigan, community. Staying involved in community service activities is something that brings smiles to the faces of all Aurora Pond residents.
December 2016 was no different for these benevolent seniors. Aurora Pond held its holiday season annual event, “Christmas Trees in the Atrium,” to raise money for seniors in the surrounding community to help with heating bills. Decorated trees were donated by different local organizations and then displayed throughout the senior living community’s atrium in anticipation of the annual silent auction.

Each of the beautifully decorated trees was auctioned off with all proceeds being donated to Love In the Name of Christ, Love INC, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping neighbors and fellow residents in the community. Aurora Pond and its fellow Wyoming residents raised $350 for Love INC. Following the Christmas tree fundraiser, Love INC found local seniors who needed a little help with their heating bills during the winter.
“Our residents very much enjoyed the fundraising event in December,” said Pamela Eerdmans, enrichment coordinator for Aurora Pond. “They loved having the decorated trees in the atrium and opening our doors for the silent auction.”
To cap off an already great event and wonderful night, the final tree that was not purchased was donated to a family who would not have had a tree for the holidays.
