Balancing Me Time and We Time at Holiday Retirment
How do you find balance in life? We’re not talking about stabilizing your core in a favorite yoga pose
, but rather, finding real balance; that sweet spot between carving out enough time for yourself and spending it with others. Even the most outgoing people enjoy a little alone time here and there, and many people who love spending time alone or in small groups crave cutting loose with a big group on occasion.
Whether your free time preference falls in the “Me Time” or “We Time” category, our Holiday Retirement communities
have something for everyone – and even a few suggestions for embracing the “yin” to your “yang,” no matter what side you fall on!
“Me Time”: Find your happy place
The beauty of individual apartments is that it’s a space our residents can completely call their own. Each apartment at every Holiday community is different, and residents are free to put creative touches on their spaces to make their house feel special.
Even if you prefer the comfort of a favorite chair, don’t forget that the benefits of social interaction to a senior's quality of life are numerous, and we have plenty of places that allow older adults to get outside the apartment without getting outside their comfort zones:
● Read a book in the community’s library for some peace and quiet
● Go for a walk in our beautiful outdoor spaces
● Spend time in the community garden helping cultivate fresh fruits and vegetables
● Participate in any of the number of volunteer opportunities, like Click for Babies
, that allow residents share their talents in a rewarding way
“We Time” Tip: Looking for some face time with new friends? Invite a neighbor to do any of the above activities or have a friend over for a movie matinee afternoon!
“We Time”: Let’s get together!
Our communities all have a calendar of events
chock-full of activities that would tire out even the most active social butterfly. There’s plenty to do around the community to connect with other residents:
● Join a table of friends for a meal in the dining room
● Go on a group adventure during Adventure Travel Club
● Explore the neighborhood on one of the many trips organized by Holiday staff members
● Get physical! Join the community’s bean bag baseball
team for camaraderie and competition
“Me Time” Tip: Don’t want to miss out on exciting events at the community but thinking about sitting one out for some much-needed alone time? Ask the staff at the community to print out a calendar of events for you so you can ensure you make the next one!
