Residents share what it means to live at Holiday Retirement
Home is more than just a place. It’s a feeling. It’s the warm embrace of an old friend and the discovery of a new one. It’s the sense of profound happiness that floats around the edges of easy afternoons spent playing cards and sipping lemonade. It’s the happy hum of friends and family dining at the same table. It’s a slice of life that brings comfort and joy.
That feeling is alive and well at Holiday Retirement, and that’s why more than 30,000 people across the U.S. call our communities home. But don’t just take our word for it – hear it directly from some of our residents!
“I love Holiday because I can sit in the quiet of my balcony and enjoy a book by myself, or be social with my tablemates at mealtimes. It’s the best of both worlds.” - Marian Hansen, Holiday Retirement’s Whispering Chase
“This is my home! It’s just like my previous home, but with all my friends.” - Bettie T., Holiday Retirement’s Genesee Gardens
“It’s a place that feels like home, and I love it here. We have fantastic people working here who go above and beyond often. The food is good, and I don’t have to cook it! I am glad to be able to attend many religious activities, some even resident-led. As a pianist, I love the quality of the dining room’s piano. We have lots of entertainment and parties on top of all the daily activities. I also love being able to share my meals with other people, many of whom I now consider my friends.” - Carole Sickman, Holiday Retirement’s University Oaks
“I love living here because it is a relief from loneliness. The people are really friendly.” - Charles, Genesee Gardens
“I love Holiday because I am so settled and organized here. I love having daily routines with meals, games and more.” - Betty H., University Oaks
“I am thrilled I can still host Happy Hour almost every day. The staff always gives me help with heating up pizzas and allowing me to invite the rest of the residents to join the fun. Also, as I am vision-impaired, I especially appreciate the quality housekeeping. Lastly, the staff serving the meals are a great blessing, because they usually know what I want before I even say it!”
- Jean W., University Oaks
Whispering Oaks, My Home
by Patty Palmer, Holiday Retirement’s Whispering Oaks
Whispering Oaks is a busy place!
We love living here!
Even though we may live alone
There is always friendship near.
We may walk a little slow
Might use a walker or cane.
We have a walker parking lot
And they all look the same!
The food here is delightful!
Perfectly suits our wishes.
It tastes even better because
We don’t have to do the dishes!
There’s always something going on
If you’re inclined to go.
You can get a new hairdo
Or play some wild bingo!
We’re happily entertained
All throughout the year!
Bands playing our era’s songs
That we love to hear!
We may come from everywhere
But together we’ve camaraderie!
We’re not just a bunch of people,
We’ve become a family!
Whispering Oaks is beautiful
From here we’ll never roam
It’s not just a building.
It’s where we call home!
