How Devonshire Estates Built a Culture of Family
Holiday Retirement’s Devonshire Estates is the kind of community where there’s always someone to see and something to do. Ask Resident Experience Coordinator Laurie Turner what’s coming up and you’ll hear a range of choices, from a classic car event to a fashion show, with a fair few things in between.
Events at the community are always well-attended, perhaps because the residents, staff and friends of Devonshire Estates enjoy each other’s company so much. A great deal of credit for that sense of family is due to residents who dedicate themselves to enriching the community around them.
There’s Bud Aronson, a resident who created the popular bimonthly group, Meet Your Neighbor. Held on the first and third Thursday of each month, Meet Your Neighbor offers residents opportunities to get to know each other -- not just as acquaintances, but as friends. At each meeting, one resident shares his or her story with the rest of the group. Bud keeps the community well-informed about upcoming meetings by making and posting fliers throughout the community.
But Bud’s far from the only resident making an impact on the community. Betty Bell is known around Devonshire Estates as something of a social butterfly with an unparalleled talent for jigsaw puzzles. She’s also one of six residents who serves on the Liaison Committee, a group dedicated to fielding suggestions and solving challenges at the community.
Also on the Liaison Committee is Father James Joyce, a retired pastor who has found plenty of causes to keep him busy at Devonshire Estates. In addition to his committee work, James is a frequent bingo caller and volunteers to man the front desk once a week.
Bud, Betty and James are a trio of happy, welcoming faces who make everyone at Devonshire Estates feel welcome from the moment they walk in the door, and we couldn’t be happier to call them part of the Holiday Retirement family.
