Lake Ridge Village chef competes in Chefs Under Fire
Central Florida chefs turn up the heat in "Chopped" -inspired cooking competition at Lake Ridge Village
In July, Lake Ridge Village in Eustis, Florida, hosted the Chefs Under Fire cooking competition. Three chefs from senior living communities and area-restaurants in central Florida came together to prepare delicious dishes with some serious sizzle.
The Chefs Under Fire competing chefs included Eddie Wilhelm from Magical Meat Boutique, Graham Ellis from the Goblin Market, and Lake Ridge Village sous chef Abner Quintero. The judges were three Holiday Retirement associates and a fourth guest judge for the second and third rounds. A culinary instructor from a local high school, the guest judge was chosen by raffle from the audience. The winner of the competition, Graham Ellis, received a prize basket of gourmet cooking supplies.
“The competing chefs really did a great job working with unusual ingredients that don’t typically go together,” said Jarrod Dixon, executive chef at Lake Ridge Village. “The combination of ingredients really challenged the chefs, and they came up with some wonderful dishes.” Find out more about dining at Holiday Retirement senior living communities.
About 100 people attended the event, including many residents of Lake Ridge Village. The audience was involved throughout the event, milling around the chefs as they worked, and playing trivia. The event raised around $200, which will benefit the Veterans Organization of Resource and Recovery for the Homeless.
The Chefs Under Fire competition also highlighted the expertise of Holiday Retirement chefs. Holiday Retirement residents are treated to daily chef-prepared meals, all made from fresh, seasonal ingredients.
