Learning - An Opportunity That's Always in Season at Holiday Retirement
As we pull out our cozy sweaters and stop to admire the turning leaves, we are reminded that summer has passed and fall is in full swing. Nostalgic memories of cheering on our school’s football team or seeing that yellow bus coming down the road may be evoked by the change in season. For many, fall reminds us that school is back in session and it’s a new year for learning.
Our Holiday Retirement communities believe that learning always can – and should! – be fun and rewarding. We aim to provide opportunities that foster growth of all kinds. Whether it’s trying a new activity like tai chi or rekindling a passion for photography, we have something for everyone!
All of our communities have a calendar of events to spark your personal growth and well-being. Typical events could include:
- Word puzzles
- Painting classes
- Beanbag baseball
- Balloon volleyball
If you don’t see something on the calendar that interests you, have no fear – you can always suggest and develop new activities. For example, at Holiday Retirement's Windlands South, resident Nat Bissel is a bridge enthusiast whose love of the game caught the attention of other community members. Not only did residents come together to form a bridge club, but they were also eager to learn from Nat. After seeing his commitment to sharing and teaching bridge, Nat’s community decided to make an official bridge day for everyone!
Personal growth can mean learning a new game, but it also can represent so much more. At Holiday Retirement's Sunridge, resident Louise Elaine McGreevy has been learning a whole new lifestyle. Over the past year, Elaine has been working hard and has made huge progress in learning to walk with her prosthetic leg. She has embraced her new way of living and is always willing to volunteer to help out around her community.
As Nat and Elaine demonstrate, there is no end to learning, and a classroom isn’t required for education. Embracing new skills can lead to a richer and more satisfying life, so channel your back-to-school spirit and check out a brand-new Holiday Retirement activity or event this fall!
