Standiford Place residents celebrate local teachers
World Teacher’s Day did not go unnoticed by Alberta Martone and other residents of Holiday Retirement at Standiford Place this year. The October 5 holiday began in 1994 when UNESCO declared the day a celebration for all teachers worldwide.
To mark the occasion, residents assembled bags of homemade cookies to present to the teachers and faculty of Alberta Martone Elementary School. But this school is no ordinary elementary school in Modesto, California, it also happens to be named after Standiford Place’s own Alberta Martone, a former teacher.

Senior living community residents hand delivered the cookies and cards to teachers and faculty October 5 to show their appreciation for their hard work. It was a small gesture with a big impact for the residents to share their appreciation for the teachers and all that they do.
The teachers were incredibly happy to be treated to such a kind gesture and enjoyed meeting and chatting with the residents from the Modesto retirement community.
“It was such a fun day,” said Laurie Warren, enrichment coordinator at Standiford Place. “Seeing the teachers be so appreciative and receptive of our residents was so heartwarming. Everyone really enjoyed the whole day.”
It is unclear whether this gift giving will become an annual exchange, but by the success of this year, the future looks bright.
