Glen Eagle resident rings in 104th birthday in style with friends and family
Dorothy Kreag has called Holiday Retirement’s Glen Eagle home longer than any other resident at the Traverse City community. During her time at the community, she’s made many a friend, established herself as the source for community news — she keeps everyone in the loop with her pieces for the monthly newsletter — and she’s earned a reputation as quite a formidable bridge player. So, when it came time to celebrate her 104th birthday, Glen Eagle rose to the occasion.
The celebration began with the return of friends from the past, as former community managers Bruce and Val Smith, who grew close to Dorothy during their time at Glen Eagle, paid a visit to serenade Dorothy. The festivities continued when the community was decorated for a special lunch. In addition to the festive trappings, (complete with beautiful fall flowers!) Dorothy’s photo was displayed on TV monitors all around the community.
For lunch, Glen Eagle’s own Chef John prepared Dorothy’s favorite meal of veal and apple pie. Naturally, the community shared in some cake and ice cream, too! In addition to more than 80 of Dorothy’s friends and neighbors, her children were able to attend the party and share lunch with Dorothy on her special day.
Guests, residents and staff at Glen Eagle all came together to sing a heartfelt round of “Happy Birthday” and watch Dorothy blow out her impressive 104 candles. The following day would find many at Glen Eagle still talking about the happy day, and Dorothy herself looking ahead to 105 with a simple wish: “just to make it there.”
Dorothy is one of the many centenarians that call Holiday Retirement communities home, and we’re proud to share her wisdom, and that of many others, at 100YearsofWisdom.com.
