Stay warm with these yoga movements
First, we heat our homes and cover ourselves with insulated clothing. Second, we eat hearty foods and drink hot cocoas, teas, and coffees. Third… ??? Third and most importantly, we must connect to our heart and get our inner-motor revving! Staying warm depends above all else on your blood circulation. So, your best bet for a cozy winter is actually an active heart rate. In this vein, yoga teaches a “fire” technique that flames up your inner-fire and gets your blood circulating.
Here is a safe and easy “fire” technique that will flame your fire this winter:
hunch your body, wiggle your torso loose, and dangle your arms.
Next, coordinate these three actions simultaneously:
- Suck in your gut and release as quickly as you can, just like a bellows flaming a fire.
- Exhale air through your nostrils quickly, coordinating each exhale with each gut pull.
- Squeeze your palms into fists each time you suck your gut and exhale.
Flame your “fire” with these three simultaneous actions 20 times.
Now, place your hands on your knees and hold your gut taut against the rib cage for 20 seconds.
Start to bend your knees more and more toward a squat, like a cannon ready to explode.
Explode your hands into the air.
Sway your body.
Reach for the sky like your fingers were flames, flickering with heat.
Hunch your body again, wiggle your torso loose, dangle your arms, and repeat the cycle.
Week one, complete two cycles every day. Week two, three cycles. Etc. Grow your inner fire week by week, and feel how your blood circulation improves day by day. You will be warmer and cozier than ever, trust me!
