Peggy and her pets
Pets play a special role in many of our lives, but for one Holiday Retirement resident, helping pets is more than a hobby – it’s a career. In 2004, Parkview in Allen resident Peggy Thorburn recognized a need in her home town of Richardson, Texas. “I wanted to start a charitable organization focused on increasing the pet adoption rate by providing shelter and other needs that go beyond the city’s budgeted funding,” explained Peggy.
Today, Peggy’s nonprofit, Richardson AnimaLuv, is proud to help pets and their humans through medical expense assistance, adoption promotions, low cost micro chipping of animals, spaying, and vaccinations. Since AnimaLuv is 100% nonprofit, it relies on monetary donations and a dedicated group of volunteers. Fellow Parkview in Allen residents have even pitched in to help by hosting a charity BBQ, auctions, and pet adoption days.
It should come as no surprise that Holiday Retirement's pet policy was a big selling point for Peggy, who is the proud pet mommy of two cats, Tigger and Madeline. “It was very important – we all love our pets and never want to give them up,” Peggy shared. “They are like our children and very much a part of the family. We’re blessed to have Holiday Retirement recognize this.”
